How To Increase Your Own Self-confidence

Growing up I was not what you would describe as a confident person, far from it in fact. There were many reasons for my lack of self-esteem, I had a stutter, I had a bald patch on my scalp, I was over-weight and I was also one of the shortest members of the class. These factors did not exactly help my overall confidence levels! I did, eventually, learn ways to increase my own self-confidence and will explain just how I went about achieving this in this article.

Having a stuttering problem was a complete nightmare. I found it extremely difficult to socialise due to this speech impediment and at times could not even say my own name. I suffered some quite cruel mental abuse by what I call the class clowns and have cried myself to sleep on many occasions. I so yearned to be able to speak fluently and was able to successfully achieve this goal when I was aged twenty-two.

I could not really do too much about the bald patch or my height and eventually started to accept these as a part of my life. This acceptance was an important step forward.

I hated being over-weight as a child as it stopped me doing so many things to a high level, such as sport. I also felt less of a person due to being obese. Just as with the stutter there was no need for me to accept being over-weight as it is something that I was able to change. In my early twenties I started to learn about how much fat content and calories are in each type of food that I was eating. Due to this and an ever increasing level of exercise I was soon starting to attain my target my weight.

By focusing on my problems or issues in the way that I have described helped me to increase my self-esteem and self-confidence. This is exactly what I would advise other people to do. Work out the reasons behind your own lack of confidence, and start to improve or overcome the problems. This will definitely help you to gain confidence.
