By checking prices across the nation, the variability in prices does not seem to vary too much on a used Smart car. This 1.0 L engine car will always get great fuel mileage with one drawback, it will never be a family car. This is a 2 seater and there is no way of changing that.
For a 2008, most are reselling from $8,000 to $15,000. There are some 2007 presently being sold in the US. They have been imported from Europe and are all Mercedes. These Smart cars are all equipped with turbo engines and have been altered to meet the US emissions standards. They are a little more expensive being in the $13,000 to $18,000 range, but that little bit of extra power is worth it for some car owners.
The safety cell that these cars are equipped with does make them safer than what most people think. As more and more Americans choose smaller cars to drive, it is becoming safer to drive not only a small car but a Smart car also.
There are hybrids on the market that get better mileage but they are at times over double the initial price of a Smart car.
This is also the path that Europe has taken many years ago as the price of fuel soared, small fuel efficient cars. This has all made Smart car pricing a reasonable choice at around $10,000 for a good used fuel efficient car.
