Make Money on eBay - Are You a Wheeler Dealer?

Many new sellers who hope to make money selling on eBay assume that the successful existing sellers are all wheeler dealers who have been a success because of their business practices. They believe that you must be able to negotiate and even take advantage of others to be successful. While that might be true of some sellers (Just as it is in almost all marketplaces.) it is certainly not a requirement for eBay success.

While new sellers can expect to negotiate many things, being a wheeler dealer who doesn't care about the business ethics that they practice does not guarantee lower pricing on wholesale items. In fact there are some wholesaler companies that will be turned off by an overly aggressive prospective buyer. They may refuse to negotiate with a pushy prospective buyer who doesn't recognize that everyone needs to make some profit to stay in business. Without those wholesale suppliers a seller will find it difficult to make money on eBay.

If you plan is to make money on eBay for the long term a better approach is to act as the principled business person that you are. Work for the win-win with product suppliers. Realize that compromising your business ethics will never lead to your long term business success.

Always work to understand what the wholesale seller wants and then work to provide that in exchange for getting what you want out of the deal. For example recognize that you want a lower price and the wholesale supplier may want a higher quantity order in exchange for that lower price. Recognize that you want a lower price and fast delivery and the wholesale supplier may want a high quantity order and cash in advance in exchange for that lower price and fast delivery.

Never compromise your business ethics as a part of trying to achieve success. It is possible to achieve a solution to every challenge where everyone comes out a winner. Make money on eBay while remaining a principled business person.
