We stress to our children the importance of education but some how we forget its importance as we grow up. We know that we should read but always seem to find ways not to. How are you going to be successful in life when you will not pick up a book and read it? If you want to keep a group of people ignorant just put the information they need in a book.

Most people will not read anything of value unless they have to. They prefer to read magazines that discuss gossip, hobbies, and celebrity lifestyles over business and financial success principals. Those who will read on a regular basis would much rather read a fiction book that is fill with awe than a thought provoking book filled with changed.

Research by the National Institute for literacy shows the following to be true: Ages 9-17 The ability to read and understand complicated information is important to success in college and, increasingly, in the workplace. An analysis of the NAEP long-term trend reading assessments reveals that only half of all White 17 year olds, less than one-quarter of Latino 17 year olds, and less than one-fifth of African American 17 year olds can read at this level. By age 17, only about 1 in 17 seventeen year olds can read and gain information from specialized text, for example the science section in the local newspaper. This includes:
• 1 in 12 White 17 year olds,
• 1 in 50 Latino 17 year olds, and
• 1 in 100 African American 17 year olds. What this means in a nut shell is that not only can our adults not read but neither can our children. It is time that we as parents sit down with our children and develop great reading habits at home. All successful business owners and million dollar producers are readers. You can not succeed if you will not read. It takes knowledge to master the art of your craft.

You must fill your mind with useful information if you want to be the best in your industry. Stay ahead of the competition by reading books on a regular schedule. Know that you are setting a bench mark for other to reach for because of the knowledge that you have.

I personally read a book a week along with an additional one with my book of the month club. This year I have set a goal to read at least sixty four books. I am already ahead of schedule. I enjoy reading now because I understand the value that it adds to my business and personal life. The truth is a person that is willing to read is a person who desires success. You won't be able to help increasing your personal production if you increase your personal consumption. Show me a person who reads and I will show you a person who will succeed.
