Wrinkle Reduction & Wrinkle Correction - What Really Works?
The wrinkle reduction claims made by some companies seem unbelievable. In truth, only a few products actually provide effective wrinkle correction. It's all about effective ingredients. Here's a look at what works and what doesn't.
Hyaluronic Acid
This amino acid protein is found in numerous anti-aging creams and lotions.
Hyaluronic acid is extremely important for the skin's elasticity. The level of this protein falls with age. But, supplementation does not seem to be effective for wrinkle reduction. Why?
There is an enzymatic reaction that destroys the protein. But, researchers have found a type of kelp that blocks the enzymatic reaction, allowing levels of hyaluronic acid to rise again. For effective wrinkle correction, look for Wakame kelp extract.
Hydroquinone is Hazardous
This compound is found in wrinkle correction and whitening creams. It's extremely hazardous. Known to be toxic to the immune system, the skin, the nervous system, the respiratory system, the eyes and possible the reproductive system, it is considered a possible carcinogen, but still allowed in cosmetics for the hair and skin.
In some cases, use of the product causes the appearance of permanent black bumps on the face and body. It's best to avoid any wrinkle reduction cream that contains this ingredient.
How to Lighten Age Spots
If you want to lighten age spots, try natural vitamin E, honey or jojoba. If you want overall lightening, an extract from the nut grass root is effective.
Collagen, Keratin and Elastin & Skin Elasticity
While these proteins are important to skin elasticity, hydrolyzing them deactivates the protein peptide, rendering them useless. I found one company that has isolated, extracted and hydrolyzed keratin, while allowing it to remain active.
It's called Functional Keratin and it can be found in some of the best wrinkle correction creams on the market. In clinical studies, the compound has been shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, increase skin cell production and reduce inflammation, while acting as an antioxidant to prevent free radical damage.
Antioxidants - Be Careful of Claims
You have to be really careful when you buy wrinkle reduction cream that claims to contain antioxidants. You see, technically, artificial preservatives are antioxidants and cosmetic companies don't mind taking advantage of that technicality.
HE Q10 is the Answer
Not only are artificial preservatives known to cause irritation and allergic reaction, they aren't the kind of antioxidants that the skin needs to fight and repair free radical damage. Look for wrinkle correction that contains HE Q10, a proprietary formulation of coenzyme Q10 and natural vitamin E.
Dermatologists have found that older skin cells produce more free radicals, but the levels of naturally occurring antioxidants are absent or too low to control them. CO Q10 has been shown in laboratory settings to have a dramatic anti-wrinkle effect, as it repairs free radical damage.
HE Q10 was formulated to penetrate deeply, providing more protection from free radical damage and repairing more of the damage that has already been done. The best wrinkle reduction creams that I found contain HE Q10, Functional Keratin, wakame kelp and other natural ingredients like honey and jojoba. Those are the ones that truly work and the ones I recommend.
