Ah, beautiful sleep, your escape from the stress of the day unless someone is snoring. Fortunately, you can get help from your dentist in many situations.

Snoring can cause a restless night for both the person who snores and the person they share a bed with. Even if a person appears to be sleeping deeply, constant snoring can cause them to wake up feeling groggy. Many partners of those who snore can not get a good night of rest either. One non-surgical way of reducing the occurrence of snoring is through is a dental product.

Dental products for snoring, also known as appliances, are a type of mouth guard. They are usually specially fitted for an individual's mouth. Dental appliances can help with snoring, grinding of the teeth, and sleep apnea.

Air travels back and forth from our mouth and nose to our lungs. While we are sleeping, the air passage can sometimes get crowded by the palate in our mouth or our tongue. If this happens, a vibration occurs in the throat which makes the noise which we call snoring. If a person rolls on their side, they will often be less likely to snore as this opens up the air passage. A dental device works in a similar manner. It pulls the tongue and the jaw forward. This opens up the air passage and snoring should be reduced.

You can get dental devices for snoring from your dentist or through an outside source. It is usually safest to consult with your dentist as there are many types of devices and not all are safe. The dental device will usually cost anywhere from less than a hundred dollars to two thousand dollars. The more expensive devices are typically less bulky and more comfortable. Most devices are custom made to fit an individual's particular mouth but some companies sell devices that are "one-size-fits-all." The problem with these devices is that they can not be adjusted to for comfort. They also are less effective as they might not adjust the mouth in the correct way.

If you are interested in a dental device, it is best to discuss it with your dentist. A dentist can fit the device for your mouth and make adjustments so that it works effectively. They can also ensure that the dental device will not impact any other dental work that you have in your mouth. Some people find that these devices work well at preventing them from snoring. If they are able to eliminate most of their snoring problem, they often see an improvement in their energy level as they are able to sleep better. Dental devices do not work for everyone though. Some people might not notice any relief. Others can not tolerate sleeping with the device in their mouth. There are other options which can reduce snoring which might be a better choice for these individuals.
