One of the things that is rapidly changing in our society today is technology, as each day new innovations in technology, such as TV downloads, are introduced and put into circulation for consumption by consumers. One area of technology that has seen a significant amount of change over the last 50 years is in televisions. They have transpired from being a black and white square box in a family's living room to individuals watching TV show downloads from their computer, IPod or cell phone.

Fifty years ago before TV downloads when television was still in its infancy, television technology was very different than what it is today. Families were privileged to have a television in their home, and it usually only received three channels at most. Of course all of the channels were broadcast over the air, thus families used tuning devices such as antennas to get the stations to come in. Due to the fact there was no remote, individuals and families had to get up and manually change the television themselves. Eventually the technology surrounding televisions began to change which led to an increase in the number of channels. This increase also provided more of a selection and diversity of television programs rather than just the news. Instead of using antennas to pick up over the air signals given off by TV stations, cable was introduced which provided families with better TV signals. However, it still wasn't providing the on-demand TV watching afforded in today's time by TV downloads.

While cable was only available for individuals residing in a city, those living in rural areas soon discovered the power of a satellite dish. This allowed them to receive much of the same television shows as those with cable. Of course cable and satellite have continued to grow, and satellite is not just an option for rural customers anymore. Cable and satellite have also changed to offer more features and services for customers. Often today cable and satellite come as a package deal with phone and Internet access. In addition they are revolutionizing the video rental business as they now offer movies for customers to order straight from their couch.

The latest development in technology for televisions is the fact that individuals can now download TV Shows to their computer. They then can watch these TV downloads at their convenience regardless of where they go as long as the TV download has been placed on a laptop, cell phone or IPod. It is a huge advantage for individuals who are often too busy to be able to download TV shows and quickly catch up on their favorite TV shows.

While TV first began with three channels designed to provide news it now provides a large selection of programming that doesn't even have to be watched on an actual television since individuals can download TV shows straight to their computer. While TV downloads have become a popular trend recently they probably won't be the last change TV technology sees.
