Cosmetic cures are pretty expensive. They can also be very painful and the carry the risk of infection. Yet patients are usually satisfied of the results. As with other hair loss treatments, their effectiveness vary form person to person. There are two ways you can cure your hair loss issues surgically: hair transplants and scalp reduction.

- Hair transplants
When a hair transplant is done, patches of hair are removed from another area of the scalp where the hair is healthy- most of the time the back or side. Hair from these areas are less likely to thin, even if they're implanted in a different part of the scalp. Follicles from the patches are then implanted into the bald sections of the scalp. The surgery lasts from two to fours hours, and several transplant sessions may be needed to cover the whole bald area of your head. There is little pain during the procedure, due to the skin being anesthetized before the transplant starts. After the first couple of days, you might experience headaches, swelling and bruising around the eyes.

- Scalp reduction
The skin on your scalp is flexible and can be stretched out, which is why doctors can use the scalp reduction method to fight baldness. In a scalp reduction, small areas of the scalp are removed to decrease the bald area of your head. Then the skin will stretch to cover the whole head. Scalp reduction is usually combined with hair transplants because there will be visible scars on the bald areas of the scalp. If you're considering this hair loss treatment, expect to pay from $2,000 to $10,000. This varies from surgeon to surgeon, and also depends on other factors such as anesthesia, operating room facility, etc. As well as hair transplants, the side effects also include pain and swelling.

Only consider board-certified surgeons if you're interested in these procedures. In addition, , check patient feedback and consult with your physician to review all options before proceeding with the surgery.
