This is a tough battle but it is one you can win. It is so important to keep yourself occupied in the early stages of nicotine withdrawal. I quit smoking just a little over a year ago now and I feel great! It is hard to see that when you first starting your quit smoking campaign but I promise it will happen. I will assume that you already have some kind of a plan to quit smoking as I have already covered that before.

My first suggestion for those early smoke free days is to drink lots of water. We all know that it is good for us anyway but it also plays a big role in helping cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms. If you can consume 8-10 glasses of water in your day you will help flush the toxins that your body produces from lack of nicotine. So grab a couple bottles of water and enjoy your smoke free days.

Next; I highly recommend walking or some other form of exercise the instant you have a craving. I believe this is the biggest factor that helped me to quit smoking. This may be difficult at times depending on where you are or what you are doing but if you can ever take advantage of this opportunity, please do so.

Lastly, do whatever you can to keep your hands and mouth busy. When you first quit smoking you will find yourself becoming very uncomfortable. That is because we could always keep ourselves occupied with smoking a cigarette. To keep your hands busy I suggest using one of those inexpensive stress balls or even grab a rubber band. You would be surprised at how effective this really is. In order to help you with your oral fixation I would say that chewing gum is the most simple approach, make sure it is sugar free. I can tell you that I did a variety of things when I first quit smoking. I started by chewing on pens, then I moved on and started chewing gum. Next I started buying candy, which I do not recommend, and I also ate ice cubes. Whatever you do is your choice and I am sure you will have success.

When you first quit smoking it is an uphill battle but as long as you continue moving forward you will reach the top. Good luck to you and enjoy your smoke free days.
