Me, Myself and I...

Have you ever thought about yourself? In the first few pages of Genesis, the bible says you were made in the image and likeness of God. What does that mean? Consider that your life is composed of three parts: spirit, soul and body. God is composed of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God also has other attributes; the bible indicates the three basic qualities of God is that he is life, light and love. God also speaks with a voice. In fact, according to the bible, God spoke everything that is into existence. He said " let there be light" (Genesis 1-3) and it was so… as with each of the creative acts of God.

Now we, being composed of spirit, soul and body can also speak much like God. When we think something within our reasonable ability to achieve it, we can. For example, when we "think" about our lives and set goals, we are speaking to ourselves. We may also express those goals audibly or writing. Either way, if we obtain them, we have, in essence spoken them into existence. Even something as simple as a drawing requires thought and purpose coupled with action in the process of the act of creating the drawing. In other words, either individually or as a whole, mankind speaks everything ever made into existence, much like God. Indeed, when John F. Kennedy spoke to the nation about going to the moon, we went. He spoke on behalf of the nation and the nation acted to create everything to achieve the event.

There are many questions about the existence of God, which cannot be absolutely proved and requires faith. That's not really the issue. The issue is that we do have a living spirit (life). We do have a mind (soul) and we do have a body in which we live in on earth. An "earth suit" that allows us to live and move freely in this world. We are capable of love and we can give all we have away to others and have an infinite supply of more love to give away. In the same way, what we learn we can teach others without us losing anything. Meaning, we can give others "our light of knowledge" without losing any of the value to ourselves. We could give all our love and all our knowledge to everyone and never lose any of it.

Some things are certain. We certainly did not give ourselves life, right? That was a free gift, as is love and our body and our brain with which we think and observe the world around us. Everything we have, spirit, soul and body, was given to us, free.

But what about our minds, what role does the brain play? Our mind is not our brain. Our minds might work well but our brain may be faulty, like a person who has a stroke. They think fine but they may not be able to control an arm well. So our brain is just a bodily organ that process the thoughts of our mind/soul. Our brain is just a super-super computer made of flesh.

Sin is also a reality, we all do it without exception. But how do we instinctively know right from wrong? How did we get that orientation? Could God have put this light of knowledge of right and wrong in our spirit or soul so that we are without excuse when we sin?

We have covered a lot of ground quickly… but what role did Jesus play and how can his death and resurrection give us eternal life? Do you know the bible story when the angel spoke to mother Mary and told her that she would conceive a child, Jesus? God literally "spoke Mary's pregnancy" and the word became flesh… god literally spoke the sperm cell into Mary's womb.

And according to the bible, Jesus was born, lived, died and was resurrected and sits at the right hand of God, as God the son.

What does this have to do with anything? This...

When we accept Jesus into our heart as our personal lord and savior, God literally impregnates or injects your mortal spirit with the immortal Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit literally takes over your mortal life spirit and gives you a new immortal life spirit. You may not "feel it" (some people experience a tingling sensation when they accept Jesus), there is no pain to it…. It just happens when you accept Jesus into your life. And when it does happen, you will be alive again in the future when God creates the new heavens and the new earth.

Some might say; how do you know this? And I suggest to you that we had nothing to do with this life, right? Our life spirit, soul, mind, body, the earth and everything in it was given to us, the very air we breathe. If it happened once, can't it happen again? What did you do to get here in the first place? Nothing, it was all outside your control and it free. It didn't cost you anything, it was without price.

God is a good God… he made us and gave this life free of charge. And he holds out his hand and offers us eternal life, not by the price we pay, but by the price he paid on our behalf, through the death of his only son, Jesus. Jesus paid the price of our sin-debt in full in exchange for eternal life for those who believe.

All you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your life and he will. It's not hard to do and it's available to anybody that asks. What if you don't believe? No problem, ask Jesus to come into your life anyway, even if you don't believe. Then, ask God to help you believe and he will. You may not believe right away, maybe you will. But one thing is for certain, when you ask God to help you believe he will lead you to belief.

Isn't that great? Let's say you don't believe in God or Jesus. At one time, I didn't. And I did just what I am suggesting you do, I asked. Now, after 25 years of bible studying, my faith is about as solid as it is capable of being. Do I ever doubt? Sure… but it only lasts a short time… just a few moments. Do I ever question God? Sure… but I trust him more than I trust myself. Does God do things my way? Almost never! Does he answer prayer? Yes, according to his will, which often differs from mine. Even "no" is an answer. Sometimes no is not no, it's wait. And I accept all these things from God because he has taught me faith from the day I asked him to help me believe.

If you haven't ask Jesus into your life, do it and then read the bible whether you understand it or not. Why? Because God will give you the "light of his knowledge" and the more you read, the more light you will have, the more you will understand which will make you read more and so on…

Want to know a good place to start reading the bible? Read the New Testament book of John. You know Matthew, Mark Like and JOHN-- that book of John. If you read that single book, God will guide you from there.

So the next time you think or hear the term "me, myself and I, you will have a different perspective on it, right?

Make the right decision.
