Zhi Bai di Huang wan is often prescribed to menopausal women who are suffering from hot flashes and night sweats. It also contains herbs that help dispel heat and dampness such as Rhizoma Alismatis which according to traditional use may reduce edema and swelling as well. The ingredients in Zhi Bai di Huang wan address conditions associated with insufficient liver and kidney Yin. This formula may also be recommended to someone who has been frightened and who is emotionally reactive. Further they may be suffering from insomnia and irritability.

Zhi Bai di Huang wan may be beneficial for a diminished libido as well and urinary infections and chronic sore throats. Zhi Bai Di Huang is also used to treat other conditions that are a result of insufficient liver and kidney Yin. For example, it may be recommended for someone with psoriasis and eczema. Used with Phellodendron bark and Poria it dispels inflammation and nourishes Yin.
