Learning To Embrace The Different Seasons In Life

For Christmas I was given a new book by Robin McGraw called, 'Inside My Heart'. I started reading it in the car on our way to Tennessee, and between bathroom stops and diaper changes, I was able to read all but the last three chapters. Once we arrived and got the kids settled, I finished the book with many tears. FINALLY! I found what I've been looking for. Since our first son was born, I've been searching for a how-to book or a how-to conference that would help me be the best wife, mom and minister and teach me how to balance the three.

This book is an encouragement to wives and moms. A must read! Robin challenged me to first be the woman God created me to be. When I'm confident in who I am and what my purpose is, then I can fulfill my role as wife and mom, and I can still be effective in ministry. As Robin says in the first chapter, it is so easy to become passive and allow what comes our way to dictate our lives' direction rather than making choices that will create the lives we want. We must choose to live our lives for God instead of people.

A year ago this past September, I found out we were pregnant with baby number 2. It was then that I began to search God's heart for where my place was. At home with kids or at the church every day?? By the end of October 2005, He made it clear to me that my place right now is to be at home with my young children and until He shows me otherwise, I am to make our home a place of peace and joy while shaping our sons into Godly young men.

I love to work! I love to see the product of my work at the end of the day. I love to see results of structure and organization! It was so hard for me to realize that I could have those things at home without being at an office. I really struggled with how being a stay at home mom could be okay for me. Tim bought me a book called 'The Stay at Home Mom' and it was very affirming and encouraging. It really made me feel proud of the privilege to stay at home with my kids during this season.

Whether you are a stay at home mom, or a career mom, as Mothers we go through new seasons it seems like every day. As our kids grow and mature and learn new things, we are forced to change with them. We have a choice to embrace these seasons of change and enjoy them, or we can choose to make it a negative experience by complaining and wishing for it to pass. The choice you make will have a great effect on your children be it negative or positive. Are you teaching your children to be content in whatever circumstance they are in? Are you reflecting peace in every situation you face? Are you choosing to make life fun & exciting? Are you full of joy or stress?

My challenge is for you to search the heart of God and find exactly what it is that He wants for you, at this season of your life. Once you know where your place is, embrace it. Choose to make this season the best of your life! Choose to make your home a place of peace whether you stay at home or not. YOU determine your future by the choices you make every day. What kind of life do you want to live? You make it happen!
