Do Teeth Whitening Products Really Work?

Everyone wants a brighter, whiter smile. That is why teeth whitening products are so popular. There are toothpastes, bleaching kits, whitening strips and even mouthwashes that all claim to give you a brilliant, stain-free smile. But do they really work?

As with all things, certain whitening products work better than others. Generally, name-brand whitening products work better than their generic counterparts. But with all over-the-counter whitening products, consistency is vital. If you only use whitening products occasionally, you will not experience their full effect because they are formulated to work gradually over time.

Perhaps the best results from an at-home treatment can be obtained with bleaching kits and whitening strips. These are used over a course of a few days and can be repeated at regular intervals to keep teeth white and to improve results. However, it can be quite annoying that you have to use the strips so often for so many days. You also do not get the same good result as with an in-office bleaching at your dentist.

If you want to achieve major results in a short amount of time, though, professional dental whitening procedures work best. These can be obtained at your local dental office and can whiten teeth by as many as eight shades during a single, one-hour visit. While they are more expensive than over-the-counter treatments, the results speak for themselves.

So, if you are troubled by teeth discoloration, you have many options for brightening your smile. No matter whether you choose to whiten your teeth at home or have a professional do it for you, there is simply no reason to continue to be embarrassed by a dingy, stained smile.
