Pocket aces or AA is the best pre-flop hand in the game of No-Limit Texas Hold'em. Pocket aces is a hand you want to raise about three to four times the big blind in any position. Raising pocket aces puts pressure on your opponents to fold and gives you a better chance at winning the pot. Limping is very dangerous as it allows many players to enter the pot. When many players enter the pot, the chance that your AA will be outdrawn on the river is very large. Raising defines your hand and forces the weaker pre-flop hands out of the pot. After raising with AA, you should make a continuation bet on the flop about three quarters the size of the pot. Continue to play AA aggressively on the turn and river if no flush or straight possibilities are showing. AA is a great starting hand and will provide you with a lot of chips while playing poker.

Sometimes your opponents will flop a bigger hand than your pocket aces and you should lay it down. If you suspect that your opponent has hit three of a kind on the flop, you should fold your pocket aces. For the beginner, folding pocket aces may be one of the toughest things to do. The more hands you play, you will start to realize when AA needs to be folded. Avoid getting married to a great pre-flop hand only to lose your entire stack to an opponent who flops a set of threes. Experience will give you the instinct that will allow you to continue betting or give up the hand. Observe your opponents closely and pay attention to their betting patterns on the flop. A player who rarely plays on the flop is likely to hold a strong hand. A player who plays on the flop a lot is likely to have a weak hand. Use your own observation and judgment to play pocket aces. The more you observe your opponents, the easier it will be to play pocket aces.
