What Would you Think if it Rained $20 Bills?

If you don't have all the money you want, here's a startling statement. You may be refusing more money than you realize!

At first glance, I'm sure this seems preposterous. However, too many of us do it unconsciously and can't figure out why we have more month at the end of the money. So I designed a mental exercise that will clarify your thinking and help you to see money with fresh eyes.

Consider this 1885 quote from railroad tycoon, politician, and founder of Stanford University Leland Stanford. "If it rained $20 gold pieces, there'd still be people begging for their supper."

Suppose it did rain $20 gold pieces?

Imagine the coverage on the Weather Channel! However, let's update this image and make it safer.

They don't mint $20 gold pieces any more. And what good would even one $20 gold piece do if you got clobbered on the head with a ton of them?

So let's change the image to $20 bills. That's still quite an image!

In your mind's eye, visualize a cloudburst of $20 bills. Imagine your initial surprise and utter amazement!

Most of us would excitedly run out in the street and start scooping up the money, wouldn't we?

However, would you still feel good even after the initial thrill wore off? Is it possible a thought like one of the following might suddenly pop into your mind and "rain on your parade?"

"I'll blow every penny and then some! I'll have good time, but I'll end up even more broke than I am right now."

"The more I pick up, the safer I'll be. I'll save it for an emergency or when I'm too sick to work. When the rainy day comes, I'll be ready!"

"Maybe I don't need this much. Money's hard to manage. What if I lose it all? I dread dealing with money anyway. And think of the lawyers, accountants, financial advisers, and the taxes! Uggh!"

"Money never did anyone any good. It's the root of all evil! Who needs it?"

Do any of these sound familiar? I've observed that they are more familiar than most of us realize.

If so, doesn't it seem likely that these attitudes insure more month at the end of the money?

After all, who wants more money if it only makes one more broke than at present, is only good for a dire emergency or deathbed comfort, complicates life, drains enthusiasm, and ruins every life it touches?

Instead of these limiting thoughts, I suggest asking yourself "What other ways can I think of money that empowers me to use it wisely and let it serve me well?"

Let your creative mind answer this question and you may need to trade in your umbrella for a bushel basket!
