Business brochures and advertising flyers are vital parts of your marketing campaign. It is important that you do your flyer and brochure printing with an overall design in mind. You want all of your advertising literature, right down to your color business cards, to project the image of your business that is favorable and that will stick in the customer's mind. The best way to do that is to have an interesting and unique logo, and to plant that on everything you print.

So how to you design a logo that is not only interesting and unique, but modern and not "old-school"? Well, you have to keep up with the latest trends. Let's take a look at the 4 hottest trends in logo design for 2008:

1. Waves

Companies that want to project an image of fluidity, or quick thinking and rapid movement, might want to incorporate waves into their logos. But not only do waves give these positive images to customers, but they also make for attractive designs. The shape of the waves, and the fading color pattern usually used within them, are very adaptable to other types of items included in the logo. Waves have quickly risen up the ranks of popular logo designs.

2. Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0? According to Wikipedia, Web 2.0 is "a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users."

Creativity, information sharing, and collaboration? Hmm...these all sound like good things for a company trying to establish itself, right? But Web 2.0 is a "trend", not a particular type of design. However, its popularity has risen so drastically that, in the logo design world, Web 2.0 has come to be defined as any new, innovative, and trendy logo.

There are certain characteristics that distinguish Web 2.0 designs. They usually have abnormally bright colors, "cute" icons, and shiny surfaces. Still, trying to classify a logo as a Web 2.0 logo is tricky.

3. Transparency

Transparency is the ability to see through something, which does not immediately seem to fit into logo design. You want your customers to see your logo, not see through it. But transparency has proven to be quite effective as part of a logo. It has two major benefits: it is easily adaptable to include other designs, and it is wonderful at focusing a customer's attention on a particular spot.

However, transparency does have it's naysayers. Many experienced designers feel that using transparency in advertising flyers is the sign of an amateur. Regardless, it has become a very popular part of logo design.

4. Organic 3D

3D images have been a part of logo design for years. But designers, and companies hiring them, have encountered numerous problems with them. For one, making a 3D logo look the same on paper as it does on a computer monitor is not always an easy task. In fact, it's not always possible. Another problem is that 3D images made for very intriguing logos, but not necessarily effective ones.

The new trend in 3D logos is to create an "organic" effect. The idea is to make the image appear alive and original at the same time, while not being overly intensive. This has become a very popular, and effective, technique in logo design.
