Different homes can give away different feelings. Have you ever visited a friend's home that just felt right? Comfortable and welcoming, some homes just make you feel at ease straight away. Feng Shui tells us that these homes are a result of high levels of positive chi. Perhaps the owners of the home practice this ancient art, or perhaps it is just a happy of this ancient art.

Homes with a high Feng Shui rating often sell well. First of all, it's a great feature of the home that can be utilized in a marketing campaign. Also, the positive energy of these homes simply attracts more buyers. Whether you are selling your home or just looking to improve its feel, applying these principles can help.

There are many variants of Feng Shui practice in existence. Modern practitioners will seek to balance out the ying and yang in your home, the positive and negative energy forces. For chi, or energy, to work at its best it should be allowed to enter in via the front door, flow around the house uninterrupted and exit via the back door.

A disruption to the flow of energy can result in bad Feng Shui. Clutter is described as one of the major disrupters of chi. Making sure that everything has a place is important. If you have excess furniture or you feel rooms are too cluttered, then you may wish to consider placing some items in storage.

Any hallways or traffic areas in your home should be open, uncluttered and well-lit. Light is important to the flow of energy. If your hallways are particularly dark, keep them lit with low voltage lighting or a small lamp during inspections. The more open your living areas are, the more welcoming they become. Small rooms can be opened up with the use of light coloured décor and mirrors.

Sharp edges and knives can create negative chi. Keep all sharp objects in a draw. A great way to counteract negative energy is with indoor plants, flowering varieties are the best. They are full of good chi. Avoid dried flowers, as they no longer contain positive energy.
