Scattered Soul
Broke, busted, disgusted
Will you ever be made whole?
From you, much has been stole
Life certainly isn't a cherry bowl
Nevertheless we do our best
Under each and every circumstance
Pressing on ahead to get out of bed
Make the most of our fragile lives
Try to minimize unnecessary strife
By every means keep happy the wife
For if she's upset so goes our life
Because if momma's not happy
Neither can anyone else be
Or so it seems for pathetic me
Just trying to get a grip here
Doing everything and anything
To please my darling and dear
Meanwhile trying to keep my sanity
Avoid using vile and sordid profanity
Resist becoming incessantly petty
Though I have little means and money
To provide all of the many pleasantries
I woman's eye does lust for and see.
As for little old me, here I am and be
Content to be me, though others aren't
Willing to celebrate and let me simply be
Hence I enter the rate race repeatedly
Stress out tirelessly to secure whatever
I must to make all happy and not fuss
What a patronizing placater I've become
No time to rest, relax, or have any fun
My personhood and esteem is shattered
My work wishes nothing else mattered
Therein do I find the most peace
Quietness, tranquility, and release
From angst against my tendency
To toil to please and appease
Those who most irritate me
God is there any help for me?
Please just fix all supernaturally?
For such nonstop complexity
Is too burdensome for me
Remove all of the difficulty
Let me just dream and be
Find fulfillment in being me.
