"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind", was Neil Armstrong's first words when he reached the spectacular achievement of landing on the moon. Well, I have a quote that "you" can incorporate into your home - "One small change at home, one huge impact in life."

It is so remarkable how simple changes within the home can make a dramatic difference in how you feel.

Take for example a bookcase; how you display the books within a bookcase can make a huge impact on how the bookcase visually feels - cluttered, organized mess, stylish, conservative, fun, clueless, even scary.

The look of a cluttered bookcase may make you feel unconsciously afraid to reach for a book. It may also make you want to ignore that the bookcase/books even exists. Hmmm, do "you" have books that you haven't viewed in a while?

A well designed look within a bookcase draws your positive attention; motivating you to admire, use, and take care of the books and items within the bookcase. Here are a few savvy decorating tips to put some pizzazz into your bookcase(s):

1. Have fun with your book placements - alternating from horizontal to vertical stack placements to give your books dimension and style.

2. Say "hasta la vista" to traditional bookends and use sturdy accessories within your home to hold your books up.

3. Revive your old bookcase(s) by painting the back panels with a color that is already incorporated within your room - so the bookcase will match your room flawlessly. You can even then consider it a custom bookcase, personalized (customized) to match your room(s) colors.

4. Transform your bookcases by completely removing the back panels and let the wall color shine through the shelves.

5. Hang large pictures on the front of the bookcases to hide the large quantity of books and making your pictures a great feature; drawing the eyes to the picture frames first, then to the books.

6. Place small, flat, or pamphlet-like books in a magazine-holder bin to minimize clutter. Label the magazine-holder bin the genre of your books (fiction, travel, etc.) and when you are ready for a "read" pull the magazine holder bin out to look for your book.

So, who says bookcases have to be just for books? Not me! Have fun incorporating your personality within your bookcases. Don't be afraid to let your personality shine: you can add vases, lovely stationary, pencil cup, wine glasses, piggy bank, fish tank coral, decorative box, board-games, etc.

Simple changes can draw dramatic feelings of contentment and happiness. So remember "one small change for us, one huge impact for our lives."  And, have FUN!
