Florida car insurance requirements are divided into two laws: the Florida Financial Responsibility Law and the No-Fault Law. Each law carries its own minimum insurance requirements.

The Florida Financial Responsibility Law is designed to protect you and others in the event that any of the following situations occur: you cause an accident that results in injuries; your driver's license is suspended for accumulating too many points; you are given a ticket and your license is revoked for driving under the influence; or you are deemed a habitual offender and your license is revoked.

The minimum insurance requirements for the Florida Financial Responsibility Law are as follows: $10,000 Property Damage Liability; $10,000 Bodily Injury Liability for one person; and $20,000 Bodily Injury Liability to two or more people.

The Florida No-Fault Law is designed to protect yourself as well as your vehicle. The minimum insurance requirements for the Florida No-Fault Law are as follows: $10,000 Personal Injury Protection and $10,000 Property Damage Liability.

Florida car insurance requirements are extremely important. If you don't purchase the minimum car insurance requirements in Florida, you won't be able to get a license plate or register your car. If you drive your vehicle without having proof that you've met the Florida car insurance requirements - and subsequently not having a registered vehicle with license plates - you'll have to deal with a hefty punishment. When you're caught, your driver's license will be suspended for three years. After the suspension period is over, you'll be required to pay $150, $250, or $500 - depending on the number of offense - to have it reinstated.

Imagine living three years of your adult life without a driver's license? How would you get to work? How would you go grocery shopping, or take your kids to their after school activities? Florida doesn't offer a hardship license for such situations, so you would literally not be allowed to drive at all for three years.

Do yourself and your family a favor - meet the Florida car insurance requirements.
