Introverts are often plagued by lack of self confidence due to their shy nature and inability to bond socially. It is interesting to note that people associate self confidence with how the world treats them when self confidence is about believing in oneself. Understanding this distinction will prove vital in boosting confidence.
There are several activities which introverts can engage in to feel good about themselves, like reading, writing and engaging in adventure. Love for books is an acquired taste. Apart from aiding improvement of vocabulary and imaginative thinking, books provide an escape for people disinterested in society.
Identifying and falling in love with powerful characters and embarking on journeys through the characters' lives serves as a perfect substitute to the ineptitude displayed in social bonding. An avid reader finds inspiration in the characters he comes across, deriving energy from them when he or she feels low.
A famous quote goes thus. "The core of mans' spirit comes from new experiences". New experiences come from embarking on adventures. Adventures provide the perfect escape for people short on confidence and those seeking a meaning to their lives.
The hardship involved in scaling a tall peak or journeying through an inhospitable desert serves as a character building experience teaching us, in the words of famous American adventurer Christopher McCandless, that "it is important in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong, and to measure yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions".
The self-discipline, extreme courage, perseverance and rigorous organization required in climbing up a harsh mountain like Mount Everest or the Andes are traits found only in a confident person. Thus, engaging in adventurous tasks boosts one's self belief.
Apart from diving into the world of books and adventure, discovering and harnessing the full extent of one's talent will also aid in confidence building. When one puts his or her heart and soul into an activity one loves, self confidence grows due to the realization of the ability to make meaningful contributions to the world. To sum up, self confidence is the act of believing that "when you want something in life, reach out and grab it".
