Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone: You Must First Fight the War Before You can Wear the Medal
Many people become obsessed with their desires, and are willing to sacrifice everything it takes to achieve them. Most, if not all of them had experienced many failures before they finally broke through and received their lifelong reward. Then; of course, there are those who will choose to sit on the sidelines watching their life slowly and miserably pass them by, afraid to take action, afraid of rejection and/or of failure. They keep waiting for the world to somehow rearrange itself to accommodate their disposition and present them with that infamous "right moment" when everything miraculously falls into place by itself, paving a crystal clear pathway to their success. As ridiculous as this may sound, you know it's true. Why? Because throughout our culture, we have been programmed to follow the path of least resistance and instead of standing our ground, we would much rather just "go with the flow", even though this path is most likely not the one that will get us to where we want to be.
My youth pastor once told me "if you want something that you've never had, then you must do something you've never done". This statement makes us uncomfortable. Perhaps one of the most difficult things that we battle with in our effort to succeed in life is that of getting out of our comfort zone and taking the necessary actions that will turn our desires into reality. The problem isn't with our desires to someday wear the "Medal of Honor", it's just that we do not want to have to go down into the trenches and fight the war in order to get it!
Whether you aspire to achieve something big, like starting a company and growing it into a multinational corporation, or something relatively small, like making a six-figure salary, or starting a home-based business, you must first identify those desires, and then mentally see yourself receiving them before you ever set out to. I mean actually pre-living that awesome moment when you get to celebrate paying off that mortgage, or receiving that first $100,000 paycheck, or publishing your first novel. Let yourself experience what it feels like to win first, and allow yourself to really own your dream as if it had already come true, then you will have created the momentum that you'll need which will carry you through any obstacle that lies ahead. Once you have that, nothing in this world can stop you from achieving victory!
