At any given point in time in any given area one can find several signs. Signs can be used in various ways and means, it could be used to warn an on looker about something or even guide someone to do something. One can see a variety of signs all around the environment such as safety signs, road signs, etc. Signs are infinitely useful, that is why it's pretty strange that people neglect them most of the time.

Sure accidents happen, but that does not mean you cannot avoid them. Consider road accidents that can be easily considered as the most frequent and common types of accidents that occur. How many times have you heard of a car crash that happened when a car over took a lane and got hit by another speeding car in the opposite lane? Take a look at the road; chances are there would be a sign warning motorists about overtaking lanes in that area. It's even funny how people choose to blatantly disregard a sign and risk life and limb over something as trivial as curiosity.

Electrical equipment usually has signs that warn people about potential dangers when using them. If you have a toaster you should see a sign somewhere that shows a cross or an "X" over a hand. It will not really take a rocket scientist to realize that it means do not touch but you will be surprised at how many people still risk injuries by disregarding the warnings and just going for it. Safety signs are not decorative appendages, they are there for a reason and so people should pay very close attention to what the sign is trying to tell them.

Often times signs merely point out the obvious, for example most construction sites have a sign that say something to the effect of "caution: falling debris". Although it is pretty obvious that since people is working above head level and near the road there is a chance of something falling and hitting an oblivious pedestrian. In this scenario signs serve as a failsafe warning device that warns people who might have their minds preoccupied at the time.

Most signs are put in place as a requirement or to follow safety standards set in a certain place. Accident prone areas have several warning signs; structures, equipment, and machinery that can cause injury have certain early warning devices, even toys have warning signs that parents should take note of before allowing their children to play with them. Perhaps because of so many signs used in so many ways people seem to just become immune to them causing them to not pay attention, the signs because of sheer frequency may just fade into the background.

People should be re-educated when it comes to safety signs, too often accidents happen just because the people involved simply decided to ignore the signs. Perhaps reminding people why signs are in place and how significant they are in protecting lives would make people see through a better point of view.
