Children, especially boys between 5 and 13 have the highest percentage of diagnosis of ADHD out of all age groups. In many cases, these boys are very hyperactive to the point where a teacher can not properly teach the class with the boy in the room. The treatment that teachers turn to first is the one that is most effective and easiest which is medication. Treatment for ADHD in children using medication is by far the most popular, way above the use of neurofeedback or other types of therapy. The only more popular form of ADHD treatment is through diet, mainly diet restrictions.

ADHD Medications

Treatment for ADHD in Children started almost 50 years ago when the disorder was known as minimal brain function and other similar names. Since the early 1990s the diagnosis of ADHD in children has exploded and so has the use and availability of ADHD medications approved to treat children with ADHD.

Diet Restrictions

Diet restrictions are definitely the most popular way to manage behavior and can relieve many of the symptoms of ADHD in children. Restricting many food colorings, preservatives, sugars and modified wheat products have been shown to improve overall body health thus improving the reactions caused by abnormal brainwave function that is ADHD. This does not effect the actual brainwaves but it definitely does influence them in noticeable ways.

Neurofeedback / Biofeedback Therapy

Biofeedback treatment for ADHD in children started back almost 20 years ago and has steadily improved it's success rates as new diagnostic tools and research are performed. Biofeedback or Neurofeedback can teach children and adults to consciously manage their brainwave activity. This allows them to immediately change their brainwaves when they need to focus or concentrate on something. Switching on a specific brainwave pattern when needed is a long term and the most effective solution to reducing or resolving the symptoms of ADHD in children
