At what point does performance and comfort outweigh the cost? When do you have to admit that you have lost your sanity and spent four figures on a mouse? We thought these very thoughts then we rested our sweaty palms on this beauty. The Steelseries Ikari Laser mouse is worth every cent.

There are usually two approaches to designing a gaming mouse. Some mice are low profile like the Razor Copperhead, while others have serious height to them like the Logitech G5. The Ikari Laser is in between these two mindsets. Its design - which Steelseries say took 15 months to develop - seems to be the best of both. It's actually the most comfortable mouse we have in the office and makes gaming a dream. The mouse is designed in such a way that even the largest hands in the office felt comfortable on it; Steelseries felt the need to make sure every finger was comfortable.

The Ikari Laser's buttons are precise and respond well, and thanks to the bundled software you can program in macros. The laser is extremely accurate and works on every surface we tested it on. As with the latest gaming mice, the Ikari has on-the-fly adjustable sensitivity but Steelseries have taken this one step further. On the bottom is a LCD which displays the CPI, and can be used to adjust the CPI on-the-fly down to a single digit, which is really impressive. This helps when you need to use your mouse on another PC; you are able to adjust your sensitivity without the need to install drivers - this tops the charts for convenience in our books. Steelseries has designed this mouse not to be used with a sensitivity setting in games such as Counterstrike. This allows the gamer full control without the need for interpolation.

To be honest, this is the best mouse we have ever used and we have used a lot of mice over the years.
