Being a newbie to network marketing business means you will fall flat on your face once a while. Are there any common pitfalls we could avoid? How could we get around these stumbling blocks? This article is trying to address 5 different issues as a multi-level marketing newbie would have to pay attention at.

1. Trying to understand everything

If you are new in your business and you sit down for days or weeks trying out the product, reading all the company brochures, understanding every single calculation about the compensation plan. This is a VERY SLOW way to get started in your business.

Your business is like riding bicycle, you can only learn it by really riding on it. No matter how complete and detail of the bike-riding-manual is, you will not learn it by just read on it. You have to start your first peddling. You might fall the first time but then you know how not to fall later.

2. Doing the business by yourself during the first month

Multi-level marketing business does not care of if you are a manager, rocket scientist, or a high school drop out, you start from zero if you are new to the business.

If you think you can earn a six figures income in 2 to 5 years time without following a system then you are kidding to yourself. There are people in traditional business who do make it within a few years but everybody learns from SOMEBODY and network marketing is no exception.

There is this one guy who is an seasoned businessman. He started in network marketing and figured he would like to do it in his own fashion. He spend a few hundred thousands dollars up front to rent an office, hire some staff, assemble a sales team and send them out. Three months later, his business had nothing to show.

What happened? Multi-level marketing business is not designed to run this way. His staff or sales team was not be able to duplicate the process. In network marketing you have uplines mentor to guide you and they don't cost you any money to ask for assistance.

3. Begging people to join

New distributors get so hard up on recruiting people that they wind up coming across as high-class beggars in suits. They pitch and sell and pitch and sell to that prospects until the prospects is afraid of them. Some even chase down their prospects.

Remember that the ball you are in control. They are the ones who need the opportunity and you are HELPING them to fulfill that. Don't try to convince them. Instead, helping people out of your genuine concern, helping them with their problems, then they will be attracted to you and in turn they will ask you about the opportunity.

4. Trying to explain the opportunity over the phone

The purpose of a phone call is to INVITE your potential teammates. Once your intention is very clear that you are just inviting, you will not confuse people by talking about the opportunity, product or plan. After they have been exposed to the opportunity through live seminar or tele-seminar, then you will be able to follow up with them and start the closing process.

5. Too Much Emotional Attachment

Don't be too upset when a prospect says NO to your business. MLM business is just like any business - mixing emotions with it is a recipe for disaster.

When a prospect says NO, they are only saying no to the opportunity and not YOU. They might not believe in themselves or they might be having things on their mind at the time. They might say YES in the future so don't take it personal.

The worst thing can happen is that you start feeling sorry for yourself and let the negative thoughts sap your excitement. It will create a downward spiral effects and possibly kill your business opportunity for good.

After considering these common pitfalls in your network marketing business, you should set up a plan to really put it in practice. When these knowledge become your second instinct and couple with experience gaining in time, a successful position is not far from your sight.
