Spies In The Sky Are Parcel Delivery Drivers' Best Friends

When the idea of satellites designed to watch over us and follow our movements was first mooted, many people thought it was less like Tomorrow's World, and more like George Orwell's 1984. Yet while their capability for monitoring where we go is undoubted, there are many people who argue that the real benefits far outweigh any concerns over a loss of privacy.

There can also be little dispute that the ways in which they now help people go about their day-to-day tasks are far more numerous than we could have imagined, even a decade or so ago. It wasn't so long ago that the idea of one street being immediately identifiable from a single, unique string of numbers and letters was considered fanciful. Yet now, the postcode is a widely-accepted designation that has become an integral part of how we address mail and parcel delivery items.

So when such information could be stored electronically, it was only a short step to some boffins being able to take all this data, and make practical use of it. Because a postcode can narrow the destination of a parcel down to a very small geographical area, it is not surprising that this data is commonly used by delivery company drivers to help them speed up their rounds.

That's because, however good their local knowledge, there will always be dangers when a driver is having to slow down while attempting to pinpoint an exact address. So anything which removes their need to do so has to be welcomed.

And a couple of minutes like this saved on every delivery during the day soon means that more deliveries can be made, enabling the likes of Parcelforce and DHL to keep up with the growing demand for rapid parcel delivery.
While many drivers would say that satellite technology has transformed their working lives, however, it has brought a new bane to the lives of many professional drivers. Now if only they could change the voice of their electronic mate-in-the-cab to something a little easier on the ear…

With so much competition out there in the parcel delivery field, a good way of saving time and money in one go is to check out the services of an online parcel delivery broker. They put a wide selection of services available from domestic and international couriers together in one place so that it's easier to find the right one for each occasion.
