Whether unblocking nerves has helped people or not has not been clearly established. Chiropractic seems like a version of Chinese acupuncture, which is used to unblock the Chi energy. For years, chiropractors rarely worked with medical practitioners, and they were almost never on the staff at hospitals. However, these days, chiropractic cures are now taught in colleges and they have professional relationships with local hospitals or universities, and some chiropractic students even take internships in medical centers. Today, numerous complementary medicinal techniques are being allowed to flourish without protest from any medical association.

The Association of Chiropractic Colleges includes and represents all CCE (Council of Chiropractic Education) accredited colleges and programs, which serve its institutions and their students. Their basic goal is to enhance chiropractic education and scholarly activity, to organize, promote and sponsor research relevant to chiropractic education and practice, and most of all to foster professionalism and ethical conduct in the field. After graduating from a college, a chiropractic practitioner can work as a primary health worker, or a medical practitioner can learn the techniques and use it in his profession. According to a recent survey by David Eisenberg, MD of Harvard University, these days, it is one of the most popular alternative medicine therapies, ranking fourth after relaxation, herbal treatments, and massage.

What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care involves diagnosing spinal misalignments and correcting them by using hands to manipulate, or adjust the spine, joints and the muscles. Nowadays, pregnant women also use these cures. Chiropractors typically use gentler pressure on pregnant women, than the more forceful manipulations that can be done on other adults. Most of the discomfort that pregnant women experience is due to hormonal changes and sudden weight gain. Chiropractic treatment can be used to relieve the usual back pain or joint pain that occurs during pregnancy. This is usually done by manipulating and relaxing the ligaments and muscles. By alleviating the source of misalignment, chiropractors can alleviate the symptoms.

Treatment Options

Chiropractic treatment is tailored to suit the age, build, pain levels and general health of the individual. However, it is not suitable for everybody. Of the 150 chiropractic techniques used, the most common is the low amplitude, high velocity thrust. This involves a calculated movement on the joint at high speed, each adjustment only taking seconds. A chiropractor can often diagnose and treat disorders associated with muscular skeletal system, such as lower back pain, disc problems, nerve and joint related migraine, arthritis in the neck, sciatica, neck and joint pains and tension headaches.

Due to the stresses of modern life, and the resulting disorders and ailments that are increasingly in evidence, which regular medicine often has no cure for, people are increasingly opting for alternative techniques. Therefore, the chiropractic field can be a rewarding career option. Medical practitioners can also enhance their treatment skills by learning chiropractic techniques. Many chiropractors find work at medical centers and as physiotherapists; hence, there is no shortage of job opportunities in this line of work today.
