The Miami heat and head coach Pat Riley - winners of last years championship, didn't do much to change the world champions. M.V.P. Dwayne Wade and Jason Williams are solid in the back court, while center Shaquille O'Neal is still the force in the middle. O'Neal had surgery on his left knee and is out until mid January. Antoine Walker, Udonis Haslem and James Posey round out the front court.

The Orlando Magic and head coach Brian Hill have added some depth to its back court by signing free agent Keith Bogans and drafting Duke's J.J. Redick. They lose De Shawn Stevenson to the Wizards. This team is a real threat with 6' 11" Dwight Howard, floor general Jameer Nelson, and a healthy Grant Hill. The Magic has won 9 of 11 at the time of this report.

The Washington Wizards and head coach Eddie Jordan have added free agents De Shawn Stevenson and Darius Songalia, but lost Jared Jeffries to the Knicks. This team is loaded with offense led by Gilbert Areanas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, but don't play much defense allowing 102.4 ppg.

The Atlanta Hawks and head coach Mike Woodson added some needed help by signing speedy Claxton and first round draft pick, Sheldon Williams. They lose forward Al Harrington to the Pacers. Guard Joe Johnson one of team U.S.A.'s stars, leads the way with Tyroon Lue in the back court, and Josh Smith and center Zaza Pachulia out front.

The Charlotte Bobcats and head coach Bernie Bickerstaff brought in Michael Jordan as part owner and managing member of operations. They drafted forward Adam Morrison from Gonzaga the #3 overall pick to start at forward along with Emeka Okafor average 18.8 p.p.g. in the front court, and Brevin Knight and Raymond Felton, average 13.2 and 12.8 respectively. They don't have a lot of depth and won't make the playoffs.
