Typically, when buying a bedroom suite, a matching mirror either comes with the dresser or is available for purchase separately. However, for whatever reason you decided not to pick up the matching mirror with your dresser at the time. But now you would like to add a mirror to your master bedroom, but are unsure what kind to choose. But fear not; this article is here to help you decide what mirror would be best for your bedroom's decor.

Mirrors most commonly used to decorate a bedroom can be divided into four general categories: the dressing mirror, the cheval mirror, the single mirror and the tri-fold mirror.

The dressing mirror is full length and is usually attached directly to the wall, the back of a door or the inside of a cupboard door. A popular way method of displaying a dressing mirror is to simply lean it against the wall. However, if there are small children in the home, it is advisable to safely secure the mirror. Some types of dressing mirrors are freestanding, typically mounted on a stationary stand. The angle of the mirror itself cannot be changed, but a freestanding dressing mirror will allow you to move it around the room.

Like the dressing mirror, the full length cheval mirror, allows a person to check out their appearance from head to toe. However, cheval mirrors are freestanding, fastened with hinges to a frame, allowing the user to rotate or angle the mirror for a better view. Smaller Cheval Mirrors are also available. They are a very popular choice because they add accent to any bedroom or bathroom. They can also be placed on top of a dresser or chest of drawers.

The single mirror is typically attached to the dresser or mounted on the wall above the dresser. When buying a mirror specifically for a dresser or chest of drawers, make sure that it is in scale, meaning that the shape of the mirror will be in proportion to the size of the dresser. The same principle will also apply should you choose to hang a mirror over a nightstand or a headboard.

The tri-fold mirror, also known as a tri-view or three-fold mirror, has three sections; two are adjustable, one fixed. The main wider section is flanked by two, hinged narrower segments. The user can position the two movable sections to see the face in profile or the back of the head. Some manufacturers finish the backs of the mirrors, giving you the option to fully close the mirror when not in use. A tri-fold mirror can be either mounted to a dresser or vanity, or fastened to a wall by securing the center section only.

When selecting a mirror for your bedroom or when adding them to the room, don't overlook the other uses a mirror has. Mirrors are a great decorating tool. Not only will they make a small room appear larger, they can also compensate for a lack of windows and the absence of natural light.

A cheval mirror in a dark, unused corner of the room will immediately create a focal point, as well as brighten up the area and making it more inviting. Especially if a bedroom is small in size, a well-placed dressing mirror, whether freestanding or wall-mounted, can make the room feel more spacious. A popular decorating trend is to group a selection of wall-mounted single mirrors in different sizes and shapes like you would a collection of pictures. A full length tri-fold would create visual interest and act as a screen, conveniently hiding a desk or an awkward corner of the room from view. Essentially, you have limitless possibilities when decorating with mirrors.

Well-placed mirrors are not only practical and useful, but can create the appearance of more light and spaciousness in your bedroom. I hope these tips for purchasing a mirror has helped you discover a mirror that looks great and has complimented the atmosphere of your bedroom.
