Preparing Yourself For The Large Bridal Retailer

Many brides looking for the perfect, but not overpriced, wedding gown will eventually find themselves at David's Bridal.  This large bridal retailer has 250 stores in 45 states and their slogan is "You'll Love David's Bridal."  And while it's true that many brides do have a positive experience at David's, many others have posted their complaints about poor service on bridal forums online.

Recently, I went to a David's Bridal on a Sunday afternoon without an appointment.  My daughter is getting married in September and all we wanted to do was look at a few gowns.  The place was packed.  My daughter selected one that she wanted to try on.  After making us fill out paperwork that included all the details of the wedding and bridal party, we were assigned a sales associate and given a room.  She remained glued to the outside of the dressing room door.  She informed me that she had a regular job and only did this on the weekend (in other words, working on commission).  She was friendly enough, but seemed disappointed that we didn't want to make a commitment after trying on one gown.

My daughter now informs me she has made a serious appointment at David's, having looked at bridal gowns online and on E-bay and not trusting the credibility of either.  (Many comments from brides that ordered from E-bay said the gown was nice, but didn't resemble the picture shown.)  I usually don't confront salespeople (or anyone else for that matter), but I have decided that I will not be hassled while my lovely daughter is doing such meaningful work.  I don't care how sweet or sugary the sales associate is, or even if she gives me a hard luck story.  If she frowns or seems impatient, so what?  My focus is on my daughter, her desires, her needs, and if any employee of David's really makes me uncomfortable, I'm going to speak to the manager (even if it's packed).

On the flip side, I'm expected to have a wonderful time and so should anyone else that may shop there.  When I owned by own bridal boutique, a few brides would come in and say, "tell me what I need, I don't have a clue."  For those brides, David's is the perfect place.  For the rest of us, don't be too pushy because we are going to be prepared.
