Get Stuck In There!

"The achievement of your goal is assured the moment you commit yourself to it." Mack R. Douglas

I have been moaning about the state of my daughter's bedroom for months and months. Every time I had to step over another pile of stuff to get to the bed, or the wardrobe or the window, I would mutter and moan and threaten. (Not very coach-like, I must admit, but I am human after all, whatever my sons may think about me!) Well, finally I'd had enough and decided that it was time I stopped moaning and DO SOMETHING about it! There was no magic wand to wave and as my daughter is only 9, I really couldn't expect her to do it without my help, so I allocated some time as soon as she came home from school and we got stuck in together. Two hours later, the job wasn't complete, but what we had achieved made the rest look more manageable. Before we started it looked like a task that was going to take days! I also realized that sometimes if you want a job done you have to just do it yourself, but it is much better when you can do it with someone else.

Inspired by this and the imminent arrival of my mother for a visit, I then launched myself into sorting out my youngest son's room, so that we could not only walk across the floor, but put up the spare bed for his brother, who has very kindly given up his room to his grandmother. Once again, the job is not finished, but my son now looks at the pile of sorting out and will do it, as it doesn't look too time-consuming and monumental.

So, this week, think about what you have been moaning and groaning about for ages and get stuck in there! In almost every case, I'm sure that you'll find that once you get started it won't be as bad or as difficult as you thought and if you really focus on getting going, you'll most likely find that it doesn't take as long as you thought it would.

Moaning and groaning but taking no action? Stop procrastinating and get started and you'll soon find that you'll have to start moaning about something else! Nothing will be achieved if all you do is think about it. Getting to that point where leaving something undone becomes more painful than actually getting stuck in and doing it is great for making you feel that you want to do something. It is like tipping the scales from have to to want to by taking action. What needs to be done today to move you closer to achieving your goals? Get stuck in there and do it!

What could you do for yourself today that would make you feel better, that would help the day pass more pleasantly, and that you could start right away? What new thing can you do today? Get stuck in and do it!

Activity is something that many of us know we need to be doing more of, but we avoid it, or can't find the time for it. Well, for those of you who recognise themselves in those words, now is the time to decide that there are no more excuses to be made. There are more chances to add activity into your life than just going to the gym and it is time to look after number one. If you need suggestions, contact me.

Often we do things very tentatively, but when it comes to creativity, it is the bold and sure that stand out. That is not to say that only the loud and domineering piece of music is the best, when many of us know that we can be held spell-bound by a piece that is quiet and slow, however it is the focus and sureness of the creator that holds us, not just the volume or brightness.

What can you get stuck into this week that will make a difference not only to you, but to someone else? How can you make a difference? Who can you help to get started? Can you assist someone who has stalled? I am sure that you can think of something or someone who would benefit from you getting stuck in there.
