Have you ever thought of getting a nursing degree online? Maybe you're scratching your head, wondering how that can be possible. After all, to become a nurse you have to do more than study books or attend lectures. You also need to learn how to handle clinical procedures and to deal with your patients, which is something you can hardly do online. However it is possible to take an online nursing degree, although the program will also include practical training in an actual clinic. A number of universities all over the United States are now offering such types of online nursing degree programs.

That is good news to many working nurses throughout the nation. It is very common for working nurses to have a very busy schedule involving long working hours and caring for a family. That means they have very little time left in which to attend a class at the University. Of course, an online degree program in nursing is demanding and will still take up a lot of time to complete. But you can save a lot of time by avoiding the inconvenience of constant physical travel to and from a University in order to attend regular classes.

There are different nursing degree programs available. You can study online for an associate's degree if you are working to qualify for a registered nurse license. You can also take a program to advance you from a registered nurse to a bachelor of science in nursing--this is often referred to as a RN-to-BSN degree. Many universities also offer a Masters degree program in nursing.

The program is divided into clinical and non-clinical training. The non-clinical part can be completed through online learning. A trainer will send you lectures, readings, and assignments through the Internet, and you will e-mail back your completed work by a set due date. You will enjoy the flexibility of being able to do the class work on your own time, as is convenient to you. Clinical training can be done at a medical center near you, in an arrangement with the University. A few online programs, however, do require a campus residency, which may take several weeks, but is much shorter than the usual stay for a traditional nursing degree program.
