Choosing suits can take you valuable time if you do not know what to look into. Suits come in different style, fabrics and designs. It is important that you are knowledgeable on the elements of men's suits to guide you in buying the suit that you need.

Lapel. The lapel is an installation in the design of the suit. It carries different connotations and can be notched, peaked or shawl. Shawl lapel are often seen in dinner jackets and not normally seen on suits jackets. Notched lapels on the other hand are the most informal style and found only on single-breasted suits. Conversely, peaked lapels are then found on the double-breasted suits.

The fabric. Men's suits can be seen in various fabrics. It can be made of cotton, linen, synthetic materials but the most common is the wool. The wool is often preferred by the buyers as this soft and smooth and does not wrinkle easily. Fabrics also have different weights which should be considered especially when summer or winter comes.

The color. Suits can vary in colors. The colors often dictate where the wardrobe is applicable. For summer suits, light colors such as white, cream and beige are preferred while for formal events, many chose to stick into black, navy blue and pinstripes. Windowpane checks are still acceptable together with the pinstripes for business suits. If you often attend formal events, reserve the black dinner suits for such occasions.

The canvas. Inside the suit, there is a layer of fabric between the outer fabric and the inner lining and this is called the canvas. The canvas serves the purpose of keeping the suit in shape. Canvas can be named into two, the floating canvas and the glued canvas. Most often the floating canvas is used for expensive suits while the other is for the cheaper ones.

Sleeves. It is of course known information that all suits comes in long sleeves. When we talked about sleeve as an element, we are referring more to the buttons it has. The buttons usually cannot be undone but serves to name the functionality of the suits. Informal suits usually have one-button while the formal may have three to four. Five-button suits are rare but are considered stylish and modern.

The pockets. Most suits have two outer pockets and one inner pocket which can either be patch pockets, flap pockets, or jetted pockets. Among these three, the jetted pockets are the most formal.
