Think about the total amount of websites on the Internet. A quick search indicates a number of more than 108 million. But now, consider how many of those will interest you and keep you coming back throughout your entire life? For most people that number averages between 50 and 100. There may be websites they use for a certain period of time, but the ones that they go back to all have one thing in common: great content. And naturally, that is due to great content writing and a passion for that particular subject.

You are supplying people with what they need at that very moment, which is something that cannot be said for many websites on the Internet. But there is a lot more to it than that. Good content writing is not only about the information that you are presenting on the website, but it is also about how you present it. An example can be taken by comparing two websites that offer information on the same subject. We can even go so far as to say that they are supplying users with the same information. Now which one of these two do you think will have the most hits? Obviously the one that provides the information in a way that appeals to the general public. This means that the language used isn’t complex or daunting and is also
organized in such a way that users can get a general idea about a topic and can choose whether they want to read more on said topic.

Content writing can be changed from good to excellent if you put yourself in your visitors’ shoes and think about what they want and how they want
it. Now this seems rather vague, but let us add in words like style, clarity, brevity and that sought after ‘human element’. These are all qualities which make websites more appealing to visitors to a site.

Style - Much like formal writing, in content writing style accounts for a lot and is something that people associate with on a mental level. It is something everyone has and is a reflection of the way you think. It can be seen in a single sentence or in the contents of a whole website and is

usually developed by writing, writing and more writing.

Clarity – Not everyone visit your site might be as intelligent as you are. This, however, does not mean they don’t know people who might be able to
use your website or, if you have products to sell, that they don’t have the money to buy with. Ensuring that your content writing caters for a
variety of people will automatically increase your audience.

Brevity – The Internet is a fast, happening place and its users aren’t slow either. They are impatient and want things at the touch of a button. Being
brief in delivering the information through your content writing will ensure that more of your content gets read and that people remember more of

what it is you are trying to impress upon them.
The Human Element – This one is a bit tricky to explain seeing in terms of content writing as it encompasses things like ‘personality’ and ‘attitude’.

Most people will appreciate a joke or two or even just any sign that you are not a machine. These are basic elements associated with content writing. Other forms of content writing include SEO content writing which is an advisable read if
you have a website you want to get listed in the search engine rankings.
