When you plan ahead and plan in time for yourself you'll be more effective. Read on for keys to stress free days.

Plan your day

Take time to think through what you need to do and plan your day the night before or in the morning before you begin, whichever works best for you.

Leave space around the edges

This gives you time to handle the unexpected without being under undue pressure. If everything goes as planned you'll have time available to do something spontaneous or simply take time to relax and recharge your batteries.

Prioritize

Do things with a high priority first. Tackle the tricky jobs early in the day when you're still fresh.

Exercise at least three times a week

Plan exercise into your week. You'll feel better for it. Choose something you actually enjoy, it doesn't have to involve the gym, it could be something as simple as a walk in the park.

Make sure you get enough sleep

Most people function better when they get 8 hours sleep. Try to have an early night once a week and make sure you wind down in the last hour before going to sleep. If you work right up to going to bed you'll be too 'wired' to sleep easily.

Take time to be still and meditate for 15 minutes each day

If you don't already do this you'll be amazed at the difference 15 minutes peace makes to your day.

Plan in time for yourself each week

You're important too and the people around you will benefit when you take better care of yourself and allow yourself to do things you really want to do.

Leave things tidy and organized at the end of the day

Mess and clutter drain your energy. Give yourself the best possible start to each day by getting everything ready the night before.

Keep a success journal

You perform better when you gently encourage yourself. Update your success journal at the end of each day and make a point of celebrating your successes.

"Stress is the trash of modern life - we all generate it but if you don't dispose of it properly, it will pile up and overtake your life." Danzae Pace

"Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering." Pooh's Little Instruction Book, inspired by A.A. Milne
