If you are struggling with anxiety, irritability, insomnia and blue moods the first thing you need to watch is your diet. Are you watching what you eat or what you drink?

Diet can be pivotal when it comes to beating anxiety. Remember, we are what we eat.

The first item you need to examine is the role of caffeine in your life. Do you consume a large quantity of coffee or caffeinated soft drinks? Too much caffeine can cause many symptoms of anxiety, and you may find you feel much better after simply eliminating it from your diet.

Caffeine can make you feel restless and nervous in addition to preventing you from getting proper sleep. And lack of sleep can make you anxious; you may feel like you're not able to perform well because you're so tired. Caffeine also removes magnesium from your body, a mineral that is important for your heart and bones and which acts as a muscle relaxant. Some people are so sensitive to caffeine that they get to eliminate panic attacks and decrease their anxiety levels just by quitting caffeine altogether!

Coffee, caffeinated teas, chocolate, and sodas are the most common sources of caffeine.

So what should you drink then? The best answer here is water.

Dehydration stresses your body, which also stresses your mind. Many experts contend that, if you feel thirsty, then you're already a little dehydrated. Keep a bottle of water with you, and add some lime, lemon, or other natural juice extract for flavor.

Another thing you want to avoid or reduce is alcohol. While it may make you feel relaxed initially, it can interfere with your sleep and cause a hangover later on. If you're depending on alcohol to relax you and lift your mood, you will find that you need to take in more and more over time, which can lead to a serious dependency. Avoid the stress and anxiety that alcohol can introduce by cutting back, or even cutting it out of your diet completely. See for yourself what difference it makes in your like and overall health.
