How to find the best Mobile Phone Upgrades

One of the main reasons for having a contract mobile phone rather than a pay as you go arrangement is that you get the opportunity to get a new handset every time your contract is up for renewal. In return for you taking out a full year or 18 month contract with the mobile phone company, you can have a new handset that will boast all the latest functions such as a built in digital camera or MP3 Player.

There are two options open to you when you change your contract, taking out a new arrangement altogether, which usually means shopping around between the different networks to find out what is available, or alternatively, just seeing what your own network is prepared to offer you in order to keep you on as a customer.

Typically, by getting a new deal from a different supplier, you will get the best value for money, as the networks are generally more interested in getting new people to sign up rather than to keep them on.

The main advantage of upgrading your contract with your existing provider is that you can keep your existing number, rather than having to get a new one, and tell all your contacts about it, however, it is possible to transfer your number to a new phone, although the process can take up to a week, and the network normally make it as hard as possible for you to do.

Many times, when you take out a new contract, you will get very good incentives to sign up. Free or half price line rental is a popular enticement, and many companies offer a gift when you sign up. As well as getting a free phone with your new deal, you might well get a gift such as an iPod, or a games console.

There is a great deal of competition when it comes to signing up new customers to a mobile phone contract, so make sure you shop around in order to find the best deal for you. Be wary of free line rental deals where you have to redeem a series of vouchers in order to get your money, as these often have stringent conditions applied to them that make it difficult to get your money back if you are late in submitting the request.

Upgrading your phone is an opportunity to get a better deal, as well as a new phone, but choose carefully, as you will be stuck with your new model for a year or more.
