How To Become A Writer

Just about everyone seems to hate his or her old English class back in high school. But writing is something that's actually very important and is used for just about every single career choice in everyone's future. Ernest Hemingway said that anyone who can write a simple English sentence can be a writer. In reality, it also involves being alert to the world around you and having a little bit of motivation, but that's the easy part.

If you want something bad enough, then you have will power. And that's exactly what it takes to become a writer. Some people call themselves writers when they've never written anything substantial at all or maybe they only have a single completed work, but that didn't stop them. If you want to write, then write. It's as simple as that.

Do you have a job? A family? A career and a life? Don't let that stop you from writing. Writing takes time, which is something we all have, even if we don't want to admit it. Take thirty minutes out of your day. Maybe before you go to sleep or just after dinner when no one will bother you. Take this time and just simply write non-stop for entire length of time. It doesn't matter if what you write is any good. It's all about getting into the habit of writing. Once you force yourself to actually sit down and write every single day, you'll be in the habit. When it comes to writing something that's actually worth it, you'll notice you already have time set aside. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes.

Pay attention to your emotions and the world around you. If you go on a camping trip, pay attention to everything that goes on around you. What was the weather like? What was your girlfriend wearing? How was her mood? Were there reflections of the stars in the lake's water? Writing is all about being able to get others to see what you see. Getting it down on paper is the hard part. The more you pay attention to the world, the better writer you'll become.

Writing daily is the best place to start, but the only way you'll improve is if you also take a little time to read every day. If you like horror fiction, try reading a fantasy children's story. If you like stories of romance, read a book about World War II. It really helps to break out of your shell and experience new things, new writers, new styles. Soon you'll be able to incorporate all sorts of new things into your own work.

Finally, you should draw pictures. Writing uses one part of your brain, but doing another form of art can help to stimulate other parts and expand your mind. Do word puzzles, play Scrabble, help someone with their geography homework. This will be a sure-fire way to get your brain all fired up. The more you participate, the better you'll get at writing. It also helps if you're an active person. The brain is essentially a muscle and it needs to be exercised in its own sense, too.
