Ok so you have a brand new website and I bet you are really fired up about it, and want the whole world to see it, and if your selling something on it you probably think the money is just going to roll in right? Wrong, none of that is going to happen. Sadly your site might never be seen by anyone, however with a few simple SEO techniques you can quickly and easily change that.

SEO is also known as Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization is key to drawing unlimited amounts of free high quality traffic to your website, however you need the skills and knowledge to know what exactly needs to be done to obtain the traffic you desire. You cannot expect to make a site and have every body in the world know about it. It just does not work like that.

So what you first need to do is research your target market, and look at who your competitors are, and see what they are doing. See what their page rank is, and look and find where they rank for keywords you might like to rank well for. If their page rank is a low number for example 0 to 3 you probably can beat them in page rank with a little hard work in a short period of time. Also if there are only a few million searching for a keyword your looking to target you can quickly get to the top with a bit of SEO work.

Once you get a feel of who your competitors are, and what they are doing the next thing you will want to do is make a list of certain keywords that you know people are searching to find whatever business you are in. Make sure not to use such board keyword terms though, as some may have millions of sites ranking for them. The more specific you can be the less competition you will have to face.

Next you will now need to optimize your website for your keywords that you have created. There are a number of different ways you can do this. First lets start off with the title of your website. Put your main keyword in the title at least one time. Then put a line and put your second main keyword. The next part will be your description. In your description you will want to use your top 3 or 4 keywords at least one time, however make your description very informational and eye catching so it sticks out in the search engines. After you have come up with a good description you are ready to add in your keywords. You will want to start off by placing your first main keyword at the beginning followed by your other keywords you have selected.

Now comes the on site SEO. First use your main keyword at the top of your site with a header tag. Next use your top 5 keywords at least 5 to 10 times on your home page of your website. Make sure to bold, underline, or italics your keywords a few times, but make sure you do not over do it.

That about covers the basics of on site optimization for your website. Knowing these couple of things you can now go out and target your market and really rank well for your keywords, which will in return draw in free traffic for you from the big search engines.
