Ensuring that your home is ready to hit the local real estate market goes far beyond doing some simple cleaning and tidying up. In order to compete with hundreds of other homes, you need to create a special environment for your home that will enthrall viewers and drew them into your home to explore what it has to offer. Staging is a great way to start this process. Staging is the process whereby you remove clutter and extraneous items and furniture from your home and try to make the home more inviting. However there are a few things that you may want to do before you reach this point.

Take some time to consider the overall appearance of each room in your home individually. Do they create a unified atmosphere for the home or is it kind of a hodge-podge of different styles and themes? Generally speaking, homes with a unified theme tend to show better and sell better. You will have to ask yourself some pretty searching questions about your choice of colors and decoration. Are the rooms a bit gloomy or dark? How does the art you have on the walls add to the rooms' look? If you have any doubts about these things then you may want to consider a bit of a rejuvenation for some of the rooms.

One thing that is notorious for alienating buyers is rooms painted in outrageous colors or papered with "interesting" wallpaper. When selling a home it is imperative to make the home as appealing as possible to as many people as possible. This typically means painting the walls in neutral lighter shades. Darker colors can make a room look gloomy if they are not properly decorated and lit.

To showcase a home properly there should be clean and open paths through all the rooms. Try not to have furniture blocking the viewers access to any aspect of the home. Ideally buyers will be able to "flow" through the home, taking in it's highlighted areas and features. Make sure you spend some time ensuring that these things are readily evident to anyone and your showing should produce much more interest.
