As a person who has traveled a lot, but not as much as I want, I have scene many unique and hilarious things. Here is a list of the top 4 party events I have attended while on the road.

Top 4 Party Events Abroad I Have Experienced

Before people start sending me hate mail, let's define something. This is a list of events I have actually attended, not a list of events around the world. I've traveled to 40 plus countries, so it is a decent list. Yes, there are other great events, but these I can personally vouch for.

1. New Years in Russia - Russians are known for enjoying themselves to the extreme. From eight hour dinners to vodka toasts till you drop, this is country that likes to have some serious fun. New Years is simply and completely out of control in Russia. It is vodka, food, dancing, vodka, food, dancing for anywhere between three days and a couple of weeks depending on where you live. The entire country just shuts down. If you have a chance to experience, I highly recommend it.

2. Tomato Festival in Spain - Yes, running with the bulls is great and all, but La Tomatina in Bunol has it beaten hands down. I would love to tell you it celebrates an important date in Spanish history or perhaps an important figure. It doesn't. Started in 1945, it is just one big tomato fight. Thousands attend. You show up in a bathing suit you plan on throwing away later. After eating and drinking wine in the morning, tomatoes are shot/dumped into the square. The only rule is that you have to smash them before throwing them. It is a madhouse and something you have to experience.

3. The Palio di Siena - A horse race held in the mid-evil fortress town of Siena, Italy. Ah, but not just any old horse race. This race sets the bragging rights for the year for the local neighborhoods. Each enters a horse with a rider from the neighborhood. Prior to the race, neighborhood bands will march through opposing neighborhoods playing their anthem. It is serious stuff. 50,000 people pack into the square and it is one huge party. Afterwards the victors rejoice and the losing neighborhoods…well, rejoice too.

4. King's Birthday in Thailand - Thailand is known as a fun loving land, often called the land of smiles. No day in Thailand is more fun loving than the King's Birthday. King Bhumibol Adulyadej is really loved by his people and no more so than on his birthday - December 5th. You could be down on the beaches or up in Chang Mai in the north. It doesn't matter. Fireworks, bands and so on are in full blast.

Admittedly, there are plenty of other amazing events to attend if you are traveling. Frankly, some of the best are small, local festivals you just stumble upon. Nonetheless, any of the above parties are worth attending if you get a chance.
