For those who have dry skin, your skin often feels tight and dehydrated, especially after a wash. Sometimes you will experience dry flaky patches but generally there is little greasy areas around your face. For fair skinned people, this skin type is the norm. If you want to be free from dry skin, then you have to learn how to best care for your skin.

Cleansing

This is an important step in your daily skincare regime. But for people with dry skin types, cleansing could be washing away the essential oils from your stratum corneum. This can worsen your skin and makes it more vulnerable to hold its moisture.

Avoid using soap in your cleansing routine as it can be very drying to your skin. The most important thing is always to choose a cleanser that is gentle, cleanse efficiently, and yet leaves enough skin lipids in place. It is generally recommended for you to opt for cleansing milks or oilier types of foaming cleansers, if you are experiencing dry, flaky skin.

Toning

Toners are less emphasized as an accepted skin care routine these days. Toners are used to recondition our skin, and give it a balance of natural skin sebum. Usually, there are two types of toners. One is meant for oily skin types and the other for dry skin types. The dry skin toner type contains little or no alcohol so that it will not dries the skin further. Compounds like allantoin, glycerin and soothing plants extracts can be found in toners for dry skin. After toning, your face will feel less stretched and more taut.

Moisturizing

If you have dry skin, moisturizing is a must-follow routine. It provides much needed soothing and hydration provisions to your skin. Dry skin lacks fatty lipids which can prevent moisture loss. Therefore, it is important to choose a moisturizer that is rich in natural lipid-mimicking ingredients. Watch out for humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acids in your moisturizer which can help remedy the cause and symptoms of dry flaky skin. Similarly, keep a lookout for essential fatty acids in day creams like linoleic acid and vitamin F that can help restores the lipids layers which may be found lacking in dry skins.

Remember, the basis of any successful dry skin care is to protect and allow your skin to recover from any damages that has occurred previously. With a proper skin care regimen that consists of important steps like cleansing, toning and moisturizing, your skin stands a better chance of staying away from dry skins.
