A Thames boat party on the river Thames in London is much better value than most people think. It can also be as simple or complicated as you choose it to be.

It really is a numbers game if you have less than 50 people then the best value option is to buy tickets on a scheduled riverboat disco cruise. If you can muster up a larger group it starts to become cost effective to have a private charter.

The advantage of a riverboat disco cruise is that each person can book and pay for their ticket individually. This means you as the organiser don't have to worry about getting confirmation from everyone and collecting all the money yourself! Also the evening is already organised with set times and embarkation/disembarkation piers. Food and music is all provided and it is a tried and tested system operating every Friday and Saturday nights. It therefore leaves you as the organiser relaxed as almost all the work is done for you.

However if you want to make it into an extra special party for your friends, family or work colleagues a bespoke private charter gives you many more options. You can choose which London Party Boat you want to charter. Where and what times the cruise operates, the type of food, music and decorations. When comparing the price with a scheduled Thames boat cruise if you have high enough numbers it can actually work out cheaper to book your own party boat for hire!

Don't be put off by large figures such as the boat hire and total food costs. Ask the sales person to work out a total per head cost including VAT based on your predicted numbers. The Thames boat hire element of the cost is actually zero rated for VAT so VAT does not apply. As this is often at least half the total cost it can make a huge difference to the cost you were expecting to pay and when you see the price per head you can easily compare it with a ticket disco cruise.

Also worth remembering is that the quality of the boats used for riverboat disco cruises is often of a lower level than those available for private charter. Generally the prettiest and most popular boats are kept for private charter.

So you don't just get a totally bespoke charter experience it can be better value than a disco cruise and you get a nicer boat.

It really depends on what your requirements are as to which option suits you best.
