Finding a great deal on your next airline ticket isn't always as easy as it might seem. Comparing different company rates has gotten more complicated in the last few months. Now you don't just need to consider the ticket price, but you also have to take into account all of the added fees that are going to be tacked on along the way.
The first thing you need to think about is how much you are going to be taking with you. Some airlines are charging for the second bag of check in luggage (and some even for the first). If you can travel light then you won't have to worry about baggage fees.
Some people just have to take the pet along for the vacation experience. Most airlines are now charging extra for pets. If Fido has to fly with you then you will want to take his fees into consideration when you are comparing rates.
Life can be hectic. If you are at a time when you plans may need to change quickly (because of a sick relative or a possible job) then you need to think about that when you are comparing tickets. Some airlines will charge a higher fee for changing travel dates (if they can be changed at all).
The rewards programs are not created equal either. Some of the airlines will charge high fees for booking last minute, changing plans or canceling while others do these things as a courtesy to their members.
