Baby Shower Gifts - Where do I Start?
Your best bet when purchasing a baby shower gift is to follow these simple guidelines:
1. If the mom/dad-to-be has registered for baby gifts, retrieve a printout of the registry. If you are unsure, go to the baby store's website and lookup the registry by last name and expected due date of the baby.
2. If the parents do not have a baby registry, it might be a good idea to visit an online store to "browse" through items available. Try Great Baby Stuff for suggestions.
3. Once you have the registry or an online store catalog in front of you, group 3 or 4 items together by category. For instance, if the registry lists bed sheets, bottles, diapers, blankets, high chair, laundry basket, diaper stacker, spoons, potty trainer, onesies and sleepers group the items together like this:
a) bed sheets, blankets, sleeper - SLEEPING ITEMS
b) diapers, diaper stacker, potty trainer - POTTY ITEMS
c) high chair, bottles, spoons - EATING ITEMS
d) laundry basket, toys, onesies - PLAYING ITEMS
You can see that the items in each list are related. This will allow you to easily create a story out of the gift.
4. Once you have chosen which gifts to purchase and you purchase them, ensure that you have the proper gift wrap, ribbons and bows. You will want to carefully choose the way to present the gifts. For instance, if you purchased the eating items you will probably need gift wrap for the high chair if it is in a box. Choose a gift wrap showing a baby eating or taking a bottle.
5. Cleverly wrap and display the items. Once again if you chose the eating items, purchase a few bottles of baby food, some bibs and some formula (if the mother has chosen not to breastfeed) to garnish the gifts.
6. Choose a card that fits your theme. A card with a baby with spaghetti on his head? Perfect! Inside the card be sure to write a special greeting and maybe a cute rhyme.
'We can't wait to see your cute baby dude,
these things will help when he wants some food,
With food and love he'll grow into a young little man,
While mom and dad cheer "we're his biggest fan".'
