Acura depends heavily on its efficient components to maintain its reputation as one of the best luxury car brands in the automotive market today. Acura's engine, for instance, would be virtually worthless without the excellent work of parts as big as its braking system and as small as its spark plugs. Owners usually put premium on the braking system, but underestimate the importance of spark plugs. What role do Acura Spark Plugs play inside the engine?

An Acura Spark Plug is an electrical device that usually fits into the cylinder head of some internal combustion engines. Acura Spark Plugs ignite compressed aerosol gasoline by means of an electric spark. They contain insulated center electrodes to create ignition. A typical electrode is connected by a heavily insulated wire to an ignition coil on the outside, forming a spark gap inside the cylinder. The process is aided by a grounded terminal on the base of the plug.

As mentioned earlier, the Acura Spark Plug,, is connected to the high voltage produced by an ignition coil or magneto. When electrons flow from the coil, a difference in voltage is formed between the center and side electrode. A rise in voltage alters the structure of the gases between the electrodes. When the voltage surpasses the gases' insulating strength, the gases become ionized. They then become conductors, allowing electrons to flow across the gap, and increasing the spark channel's temperature causing the ionized gas to expand very quickly. Ultimately, the heat and pressure make the gases react with each other. After the end of the spark, a small ball of fire should be seen in the spark gap as this signifies that the gases are burning on their own.

A closer look at the aforementioned facts about spark plugs shows that they are, indeed, vital to a spark-generated engine system. Owners of vehicles having this kind of engine, like Acura, must make sure that their cars' spark plugs are in best condition.
