BMW has released a number of new products this year and the latest one is the new BMW 6 Series Coupe and Convertible. The new BMW 6 Series Coupe and Convertible is all set to be released and will be available for sale from 27th October 2007. It features EfficientDynamics technology and some changes have been incorporated in order to improve the fuel consumption, reduce emissions and also to increase the performance.
In this new model, BMW has successfully combined the acclaimed twin-turbocharged diesel with the marque's flagship 2-door Coupe and Convertible models and the end product is a high-performance one with the added advantage of economical motoring. The launch also opens a new segment in the automobile industry as BMW 635d is the world's first diesel powered luxury 2+2 Grand Tourer. The new BMW 635d is powered by third generation common rail fuel injection system which delivers a torque of 580Nm and also 286hp. After starting from zero, the car reaches the 62mph in just 6.3seconds whereas Convertible takes 6.6seconds and the top speed is limited to 155mph. Also, the car has a twin-turbocharged 2,993cc engine with the aluminium crankcase.
The 630i and 650i models are also available in both Coupe and Convertible bodystyles. The 272hp 630i includes a six-cylinder magnesium and aluminum engine which now features a new lean burn technology. The EfficientDynamics measures in the 630i Coupe resulted in a record 4.4mpg improvement and up to 35.8mpg in combined fuel consumption when compared to its previous model whereas the Convertible recorded a figure of 34.0mpg compared to the 29.4mpg. The carbon dioxide emission has also dropped in both the Coupe and the Convertible. It has dropped from 216g/km to 188g/km in the Coupe whereas it has dropped from 229g/km to 198g/km in the Convertible. The BMW 650i Coupe and Convertible models are powered by a 4,799cc V8 engine which delivers an output of 367hp. Also, the consumption on the combined cycle has improved by 2% in the Coupe and up to 7% in the Convertible model. The carbon dioxide emission has also dropped to 279g/km in the Coupe whereas it has dropped from 310g/km to 299g/km in the Convertible.
Some design enhancements have also been introduced in the new BMW 6 Series as the exterior of the car now features a revised headlight arrangement and it now uses LED technology and also a new style of front valance. The vertical struts have also been repositioned to and the kidney grille is also large when compared to the outgoing model. The new alloy wheel designs in different sizes of 17-, 18- and 19-inches have also been introduced. In order to improve safety, the third high level brake light now sits on the boot lid lip.
Overall, BMW has introduced enough changes to get the desired results of improved fuel consumption, reduced emissions and also, the increased performance makes the 6 series one of the most desirable cars to come from BMW this decade.
