We don't' all think about time the same way and effective time management training should address this issue. Not only is the difference in how you think about time important to you, but it's also important to the other people in your life. In the world of work this may be the other members of your team.

Have you ever been in a situation where the difference between the way you perceive time, and the way one or more other members of your team perceived time became a real issue? Effective time management training should help you to recognize that differences exist between people in how they perceive and value time. If you are like most every other person on the planet you think the way you think about time and the way you value time is the only way to think about and value time.

If your time management training is based on the premise that there is one correct way to perceive and value time you are destined for a blow up. This approach simply discounts anyone who doesn't agree that the way presented in the time management training is the only way to think about and value time. Do you like to have your thoughts and opinions discounted?

No one likes to have the way they look at things discounted as being incorrect. Plus their way of thinking about and valuing time isn't incorrect it's just different than perhaps yours on the way being presented in the time management training. There is great value to be obtained from these differences in time perception and value between you and the other members of your team.

When team members recognize that there is a difference in how each team member perceives and values time there is an opportunity for each team member to benefit. You may have someone on your team who is always in a hurry and works at a fast pace, always. Another team member may take a more leisurely approach and be much less concerned about time than other people. You may have another member who is very methodical. This person likes to work at a slower pace and usually isn't in a big hurry. Perhaps you have another team member who is much less concerned about getting things done fast and much more concerned about getting things done right. Each member serves a different role and has different needs in your time management training.

Understanding the differences in how people think about time helps you to work differently with each behavior style in your time management training. There are opportunities for each person on your team to make small adaptations and changes that will better enable them to work effectively as members of your team and reduce the stress they may be experiencing in relation to time management. Understanding the time based behaviors of your team members also helps you to utilize each person's strengths in relation to time as you assign roles and responsibilities for each team member.
