There's nothing more empowering to self-esteem than a face that is radiant and full of life. As we age however, our skin begins to change and lose that luster we once had when we were younger. How can we fix this dilemma?

I have a confession to make... for so many years I searched for and tried supposed products that give a healthy glow to the skin and I was sadly disappointed. What's worse is I realized that the best skin care products aren't the ones you find in drug stores or on expensive department store counters.

The facts about so many promising skin care products that give a healthy glow to the skin are in reality, full of chemicals, fillers and do nothing to help your skin become radiant and healthy. I will mention some here, but there are others on my website you should be aware of.

Unfortunately, due to the fact it's inexpensive, mineral oil is the easiest ingredient to be put into many skin care lines. The result, clogged pores and the skin is unable to eliminate toxins properly. This can cause incessant breakouts and other skin problems.

Other chemicals you need to avoid are parabens (preservatives that might cause cancer), and fragrances (they may smell nice coming from the bottle, but these chemicals cause irritations in skin or allergies).

Having now revealed a few unhealthy ingredients, what should you be looking for in your skin care line to dramatically improve the appearance and overall health of your skin?

A favorite product that I use on a daily basis is called phytessence wakame, which is an extract from unique Japanese sea kelp. This ingredient helps the body to maintain boosted levels of hyaluronic acid, which is good because it works with two other important proteins collagen and elastin to keep your skin smooth, glowing and elastic.

Also, the naturally-derived oils are amazing as ingredients when it comes to skin care products that give a guaranteed radiance to the skin. As I mentioned, mineral oil is chemical and is obviously counter productive to having healthy skin.

Here are a few oils clinically proven to work well on skin:

Avocado oil - this oil nourishes hydration deeply into skin and has been shown to stimulate collagen production, which is necessary for smooth wrinkle-free skin.

Shea Butter - this is a natural moisturizer that relieves skin inflammation, lightens brown spots, pigmentation issues and leaves the skin baby soft. It can also benefit stretch marks.

Babassu - a natural soothing agent that keeps skin soft, especially where skin is most sensitive.
